Until his fifteen’s birthday Tomáš
Jamník recieved many prizes on
competitions in Czech Republic and
abroad. Already in 9 years of age he won
second prize on Heran international
violoncello competition and the same
prize he got also in years 1996 and
1997. Two times he won first prize in
Prague Junior Note competition (1995 and
1999) and recieved special prize from
jury for best interpretation of work by
David Popper and prize from Czech music
fund for best interpretation of work by
Bohuslav Martinů. In 2000 he succesfully
participated international competition
in Liezen (2nd prize) and national round
of broadcast competition Concertino
Praga (1st prize).
For beginning of his artistic work was
important collaboration with Prague
Student Orchestra and its artistic
director Mirko Škampa, where he could
work with excellent Czech conductors and
with which he could gain rich expirience
as soloist on Europen stages (Germany,
France, Slovenia, Portugal etc.)
He reached his first significant success
in 2001, when he became absolut winner
on international Heran violoncello
competition and recieved special prizes
given by Bohuslav Martinů Foundation,
EMCY and Editio Bärenreiter. In 2002 he
won first prize on competition of all
Czech conservatories. In following year
he became winner of Bohuslav Martinů
Competition and recieved special prize
for best interpretation of work by
Bohuslav Martinů.
He became laureate of 58. international
competition Prague spring 2006 where he
got 2nd prize (first not awarded) and
many special prizes (Czech Radio prize,
Oleg Podgorný prize, Gideon Klein
foundation prize, Pro Harmonia Mundi
Foundation prize, Artist’s Life
Foundation prize etc.).
After winning Prague spring competiton,
Tomáš Jamník presented himself on many
stages with orchestras (in Prague,
Pardubice, Zlín, Karlovy Vary, Plzeň,
Greiz, Reichenbach and Kyoto in Japan)
or with his chamber-partner, pianist Ivo
Kahánek. Very successful were recitals
in Suk’s Hall in Rudolfinum, in
Ludwigshafen BASF center or on
prestigious Prague spring festival 2007.
Tomáš Jamník performs regularly on many
festivals in Czech Republic and abroad.
He took masterclasses with Jiří Bárta,
Heinrich Schiff and Gustav Rivinius.
Three times he took a part as an active
participant in masterclasses in
Kronberg, where he studied under Steven
Isserlis, Siegfried Palm, Young-Chang Cho and
Pieter Wispelwey.
In 2007 he recorded together with
pianist Ivo Kahánek for label Supraphon
his debut CD with works by Leoš Janáček,
Bohuslav Martinů and Miloslav Kabeláč,
which was by review marked as „Czech
debut of decade“ (magazine Harmonie) and
„disc that has to be counted among the
finest cello and piano recitals to come
along in a quite a while“ (portal
Classictoday). In the same year
Supraphon offered him exclusive contract
for three years. He also records
frequently for Czech Radio.
Beside his solo career Jamník performs
also chamber music. Together with Trio
Concertino (Jan Fišer – violin, Ivo
Kahánek – piano) he won in 2004 fist
prize on Bohuslav Martinů Competition.
Trio Concertino also recieved
prestigious prize from Czech chamber
music association for year 2007.
Tomáš Jamník began to play cello at age
of five by Mirko Škampa, later he
continued his studies on Jan Neruda
grammar school with Martin Škampa.
During his studies at University of
Performing Arts Prague with Prof. Josef
Chuchro he absolved half-year intership
with Prof. Peter Bruns at „Hochschule
für Musik und Theatre Leipzig". At
present he studies at UDK Berlin with
Prof. Jens Peter Maintz.
